Monday Morning Musings. Baby's First Christmas

I know it's the new year and Christmas is over but I couldn't let it pass without at least one post about our sweet little Amelia's first Christmas.

Was she spoiled? Of course she was! But this grandma bought the best kinds of presents, ones that never get old . . . books! Morgan and Kim have been warned. Milly's going to have a bazillion pictures taken of her and her room is going to fill up with books. And what's not to love about that??

We all had a great time watching her 'open' her presents and Jada, who loves opening presents, was standing by, ready to offer assistance if needed. Morgan even got to play Santa courtesy of Jesse's new Santa hat complete with flowing white beard.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I'm not the Only One getting Older . . .

Our sweet Jada is going to be 10 this fall.

Her muzzle has begun to grey, she loves to sleep in, and she no longer rips the stuffing out of her furry friends.

She comes when I call, doesn't take bites out of my potted plants as she races by, and loves, loves, loves a good snuggle and a scratch behind the ears.

She is a joy to have around.

Some days though, I miss the puppy years . . . I just came across this post which I wrote in my first year of blogging. Eight years ago!

Check out what Jada was up to back then . . .  Carnage !!!

Super Jada!

I can't believe how long it's been since I've blogged!

That low iron thing has really thrown me for a loop! This last month has been quite the struggle in that regard. Changes have been made and more are on the way.

However . . .

That's a post for another day . . .

I wanted to start my week on a lighthearted note.

Our dear, sweet Jada had to have a lump removed recently. It was high up on her leg, leaving me to wonder how we would keep a bandage on.

Poor little soul! Her leg was bandaged top to bottom and she came home with a plastic 'cone of shame' that we were to put on her head if we caught her licking or chewing her incision. The bandaged slipped down almost immediately, leaving her wound exposed. She had a terrible time settling down but we kept a close eye on her, leaving the cone off until the last person went to bed.

I woke to whimpering. 2:30 am. I found Jada in the hallway unable to maneuver that crazy cone in our teeny tiny home. Every time she turned her head the cone banged into something. The bandage had slipped down even farther as well. I took it off and decided to head back to the vet first thing to see if there was any other solution.

The ladies at Mayfield Veterinary Hospital Rock!

No boring white bandages for them! If they were going to send home our girl bandaged and covered up, they were going to do so in style!

Meet Super Jada!

This dog is ready for action!

Well . . . . maybe not.  Looks like she's feeling slightly ridiculous . . .

"Wake me up when this is all over . . ."

* A quick note. . . I had to disable commenting for the moment. I woke up to nearly 400 spam comments in my inbox on one blog post. After some time deleting them all, I went away to write this post and came back to 37 more! Arghh! We'll see what a week or two without comments will do. Feel free to comment on Facebook instead. :D

Travel Tuesdays. Wintermission

Someone Twittered the phrase Wintermission and it describes what we've had for the last few weeks perfectly.

Today was an amazing day once again and it's the last for a while if the weather man can be believed.

Days like this are meant to be savored and if you can share it with a friend, so much the better.

Jada and I headed out to our favorite Old Glenora neighborhood, this time staying a little west of the museum.

Walking here, much of it along the river, can't help but bring a peace that can be hard to find in the city. It always refreshes me.

I'm pretty sure Jada enjoys herself as well . . .

Time to go home . . .

Awwww . . .

Dog Tales

Every so often things descend into the truly silly around here.
Now you might think I would be the cause but in reality. . .

It's Jada!
Jesse is a close second, as you might well imagine. . .
It's never boring around here.

It's A Dog's Life

I seem to be mellowing in my old age.
I never used to let Jada sleep on the bed.
Lately I have relaxed the rules a bit. . .

And she is bound and determined to take full advantage of it!
Nowadays, if I can't find Jada anywhere, I check out our bed and . . .
 Ta da!!!
Once again hanging out in the comfyist spot in the house!
Oh to be a dog. . .

A Walk In The Country

I had planned to bring my bus home today to get every extra minute possible so I could scrub the house from top to bottom, do some laundry (I had to use a dirty towel after my shower!) and maybe get a coffee cake in the oven.
However, my plans changed when Jesse met me at the bus this morning to let me know that two of the teeth he had worked on at the dentist's were really hurting him.
Whoops! I forgot to fill his penicillin prescription!
Went to the pharmacy, picked up Jada and headed back to school so he could take some medicine right away.
Sometimes it's not such a bad thing when plans are changed. . . .

After all, the house can be cleaned anytime. . . right???

On Being Appreciated. . .

It was the last day of school on Friday and some of the parents showed their appreciation in a tangible way.

Holly thinks this poor bunny looks scared. . .

And who can blame him?

Once I put him out in the garden he's going to have Jada to contend with.

And we all know how much she loves her bunny!!

And let's not forget about these incidents. . . http://rose-gardendiary.blogspot.com/2008/01/jadas-friends.html

Jada Really Loves Her Bunny

A Walk In The Woods

I met my friend Evelyn's mom and dad this morning while out walking Jada.
They are very nice people and Ev's mom told me that she knows me very well.

Because, of course, she reads my blog regularly!

I though that was kind of neat and felt it was high time I began blogging again.

While going through my pictures looking for something to post about, I realized that I have plenty of material and so haven't got any excuses at all not to post!

A while back I had to go to the north end of the city to Done Rite Floors. Morgan was cleaning out the warehouse and he thought there might be some leftover tile that we could use in the kitchen.

I decided to make the outing a bit of an adventure and brought along Jada and some homemade cinnamon bread for a snack.

After picking out some awesome tile, Jada and I headed out to Ada Boulevard, a beautiful historic neighbourhood that runs along the river valley.

When we lived on that end of town I would walk along that road and drool over the old, huge houses and soak in the gorgeous view of the ravine.

I obviously must be in much better shape than I used to be because I soon found myself at the end of the road and nowhere near ready to stop walking.

Imagine my surprise when I realized that there was a path running parallel to the the road down into the ravine.

Jada and I couldn't resist!

We so thoroughly enjoyed feeling as though we were the only two people for miles. (Ahem. . . One people and one dog of course. I do know she is a dog!)

When we got to the end of the path I discovered we had come out on the Highlands golf course, so we beat a hasty retreat before either one of us got hit in the head with a golf ball. (Hey, it happens. Just ask Henry!)

All in all, it was a lovely adventure.

Jada's Pooped

After spending a few days at the cabin with her friend (and Nemesis) Murphy, Jada was pooped!

She still heard me coming though and asked for a belly rub.

Energy spent, she went back to sleep.
