Nominated!

I was looking out the front window the other evening and I noticed the head of our community garden club putting something in my mailbox which I didn't think much of, but when I looked out again a few minutes later, she was still out front sitting in her truck writing and I realized what had likely just happened.
My heart leapt!
And then it sank.
Because if I had just been nominated for the city's Front Yards in Bloom contest I had also just been judged!
And after all the rain we had had there were giant weeds. . .

Yellow weeds. . .

Ant hills. . .

And fun flamingos hiding in the bushes from all the nasty wind we had been having. . .

Sigh. . .
Oh well, it is great to be nominated.
The thing is though, you never really know if by some miracle you may have made it to the next round!
So tomorrow will find me frantically pruning, weeding, staking and maybe even sewing (new cushions for the bench)
Because, what if??!
Stay tuned for a tour of the front garden once I've gotten it prettied up a bit. . .
(And then I'm going to persaude Ev to let us tour her front garden. . .Because she was nominted as well! Whoo Hoo!)

The Sun Came Out

The sun came out yesterday for the first time in over a week.
I decided to celebrate by making a quick movie of the back garden.
I have gotten used to my new camera yet but I'll keep working on it!

Rain, Rain, Go Away. . .

It's been raining B.C. style here for days now with lots of high winds thrown in,  just for fun.
One of my beautiful tomato plants snapped in half, my sunflowers blew over, half the garlic patch is flattened and I'm fairly certain that the cauliflower won't recover.
That said, there is always an upside to gardening.
My hosta's have gotten fabulously huge, the cedars and boxwood that I planted in the front garden think they are sill back home on the coast and for some reason the broccoli still looks awesome!
The other upside to the rain on the last week I'll have Jesse home during the day, is that he's helping me out with my 'spring' cleaning and reorganizing.
We worked until nearly midnight last night turning Holly's old room into a storage room/ spare room.
It's looking great!
Next up. . .
The greenhouse area. Shudder!!!

One Last Grad Post

Since neither Holly or my sisters were able to be there I just had to post a few more pictures and one last movie just for them
We will return to our regular scheduled programming any day now!

A series of pictures entitled . . .  Jesse is a nut. . .

And now for the movie clip. . .
This is for Tamara because she loves music, Holly because she couldn't be there, Aunty Nancy because these boys actually love to sing (the class decided they wanted to sing at grad on their own) and Lisa,  because if she wasn't included in the list, I would hear her voice in my head . "What am I! Chopped liver?!!"

Sorry about the film quality. It took me awhile to figure out my new camera.

One More Time!

I finally managed to upload a shortened version of the grads singing!
For your viewing pleasure. . .

Holly, make sure you watch this in full screen.
 You'll see why. . .

Dear Aunty Nancy. . .

Well I think you had better uncross your fingers.
My Internet has gone down several times each day since my last post and when it has worked I have tried a number of times to load the video with no success.
I did manage to upload a short clip of the class historians talking about Jesse . . .

Now I'm off to battle the mosquitoes and weed the garden.
Wish me luck. . . I'm going to need it!

Jesse And His Fellow Grads Sing

I've been having no luck uploading my grad 'movies' to YouTube so I'm going to try it straight to blogger.
I think if it works I have to do each movie as a separate blog.
Fingers crossed!!!

A Quick Peek

It's been a busy week that started with Jesse's grad, included a day where Ev, her friend and I made sausage, Morgan turned 21 and is ending with Henry and I making 30  pounds of deer sausage together.
Here's a quick peek of Jesse's grad with more to follow. . .
Soon I hope!
( If you click on the pictures you can see them larger than they are in this post.)
